Stroke Rehabilitation starts in your brain!

Each year, around 15 million people suffer a stroke, with permanent physical disorders, which cannot be fully rehabilitated by standard therapy. And sometimes, standard physical therapy doesn’t offer anymore rehabilitation to help patients regain satisfying control of the hand or foot years after the stroke. This is when recoveriX comes into play, offering a new chance of rehabilitation!

recoveriX Lagos a special rehabilitation facility that offers therapy with the unique and innovative recoveriX neurotechnology for stroke patients to regain functions of the upper extremities. recoveriX provides a second chance for improvement even decades after the stroke. It can be used in the acute, sub-acute, or chronic state.

1,250 minutes of recoveriX training

recoveriX stroke therapy includes 25 therapy sessions of 50 minutes each and can be performed once or twice a day. This means that the patient only has to travel to Lagos for about 13 times.

In addition to a pre- and post-treatment examination, personal feedback sessions are conducted to determine objective and subjective improvements.

At the end of the therapy, the patient receives a certificate of success that summarizes the most relevant improvements.

It is never too late for recoveriX therapy

In our scientific study we have proven that recoveriX hand or foot therapy is still highly effective 10, 20 or 30 years after the neurological disease - in contrast to the general opinion that no physical improvements could be achieved after one year.

Our patients are almost exclusively chronic patients. In various statistical analyses and video documentations, we were able to clearly visualize improvements.

Especially in times of pandemic you should not renounce quality of life and rehabilitation. That is why recoveriX hand and foot therapy is possible with appropriate protective measures.

What makes recoveriX therapy special?

The therapy clearly distinguishes itself from other therapies. The unique combination of 3 standard therapies starts where the damage occurred: in the brain. The key to success is the direct connection of cognitive processes with the movement of the impaired hands and feet.

During the 25 therapy sessions, patients imagine a hand or leg movement a total of 6,000 times. That's about the same number it takes a child to learn to walk. This creates new connections in the brain, helping the patient relearn movement skills.

#How "How does recoveriX work?"
Image

recoveriX is a unique combination of 3 therapies

A stroke might inhibit your ability to move, but maybe not your ability to imagine movement! Imagine a hand or a foot movement – the imagination triggers nearly the same activity in the brain as a real hand or foot movement. This is what exactly recoveriX uses for your therapy! With three different kinds of neurofeedback, recoveriX improves your chances for successful therapy.

Motor Imagery (MI)

Imagine a hand or a foot movement. recoveriX measures and analyses brain waves, which reflect the motor imagery and determines whether the motor imagery was correct. Once motor imagery has been recognized, virtual reality and functional electrical stimulation will be activated.

The Positive Impacts

The responsible areas of the brain are activated by the motor imagery, which can facilitate brain plasticity. Unlike conventional physiotherapy, the BCI guarantees that actual movements only occur when people imagine the corresponding movement.
The simultaneous activation of relevant cortical areas and peripheral neurons encourages Hebbian learning.

Virtual Reality (VR)

The simulation on the screen makes motor imagery visible. Patients sit in front of a screen, where they see hands of an avatar. This gives patients the feeling of watching their own movements in front of a mirror. If recoveriX recognizes motor imagery of the movement (such as a right hand movement), the avatar moves the right hand.

The Positive Impacts

This real-time feedback is very easy to understand. If a patient imagines a movement, then the avatar performs the movement.
The experience is similar to watching yourself in a mirror. It can facilitate mirror neuron activation.

Electrical Stimulation (FES)

For this stimulation, two electrodes are placed (for example) on the dorsiflexors of the wrist. If the system recognizes a correct motor imagery, the muscles get electrically stimulated, causing a real movement. This should help you re-learn how to initiate movement, and thus make movement possible again.

The Positive Impacts

The patient receives clear, user-friendly feedback through active movement. Just imagine a movement, and you can see your body move accordingly.
The patient is motivated because the experience repeatedly reminds the patient of the desired goal: being able to move again.

recoveriX Success of Mr. Kolawole

The stroke affected his right side. He could not move his right hand and arm anymore. For that reason, he was not able to make music anymore. Today, he can move his arms better and lift his right hand again. His gait also improved a lot during the 25 recoveriX therapy sessions.

#FAQ "FAQ"

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much does a reocveriX treatment cost?
The costs for 25 treatment sessions is depending on where you going to get recoveriX Therapy. Click on Treatment Center and choose the recoveriX Gym in your country or closest to you. You'll find prices and contact information on the specific recoveriX Gym Websites.
For what patients is recoveriX therapy appropriate?

recoveriX is a rehabilitation system specifically developed for patients with neurological deficits. Patients who had a stroke, a traumatic brain injury or another brain injury can do the therpay. Furthermore, patients with hemiplegia, movement impairments resulting from brain damage, pain, spasticity or Multiple Sklerosis can benefit from the therapy.

How long does a recoveriX treatment take?

One recoveriX block contains 25 therapies. 3 therapy sessions per week are recommended. Patients can have up to 2 treatments per day. This is especially useful to reduce exhausting travel time.

Are the improvements long-lasting?
Yes, the improvements are long-lasting and remain permanently.
What should I do at home after the recoveriX treatment?

Patients can perform the hand and foot motor imagery at home to activate the sensorimotor cortex. It's important that patients perform different tasks to keep the brain busy. If patients always think of the same movement, the training effect of the brain is lower. We recommend to imagine movements alternately, for example left hand movement, then right hand movement and then foot movement.

recoveriX' key is the training of the brain. But, it's also important that patients do some physical exercises at home to train the muscles, especially the affected limbs. recoveriX therapy can reduce the spasticity in the legs dramatically, but this also accompanied by more muscle strength to walk.

Typically, patients walk a bit slower after the first few recoveriX therapy sessions because the spasticity reduces and the stiff leg bends better. With physical exercise and recoveriX training, the muscle strength and muscle control improve. After the 25th therapy session, patients are able to stand up and walk much quicker than before.

Is it beneficial for me to repeat the recoveriX therapy?
Yes, we highly recommend that! Patients who repeat the recoveriX therapy are continuously improving. After a successful recoveriX hand treatment, we recommend patients to start recoveriX foot treatment with 25 sessions.
How often should recoveriX therapy be done?

It is recommended to perform recoveriX therapy for a complete course of 25 therapy sessions, with 3 sessions per week, each lasting for about 1 hour. Of course, it is also possible to participate in other therapies or rehabilitation programs. We know that patients are likely to improve more, the more therapy he/she gets.

When is the most effective time to do recoveriX therapy?

recoveriX can be used for stroke rehabilitation across the acute, sub-acute, and chronic stages, as various patient cases have shown. Our scientific study has shown that recoverX therapy is effective even 10, 20, 30,… years after the stroke or neurological disorder occured.

Can recoveriX be combined with traditional physiotherapy or occupational therapy?

Yes. Actually, recoveriX combines 3 standard therapies into one treatment: (i) functional electrical stimulation, (ii) motor imagery and (iii) mirror neuron therapy. Additional physical therapy can be beneficial for the patient.

Which movements can be trained with recoveriX?

recoveriX provides muscle stimulation of the left and right arm to perform a dorsiflexion and of the left or right foot. This improves lower and upper limb functions.

Can recoveriX be used at home?
Yes. In this case, either a family member or caregiver has to be properly instructed, or an employee of g.tec makes a home visit to perform a training on-site.
Does the electrical muscle stimulation hurt?

The electrical muscle stimulation does not hurt and it's completely safe. The only thing patients report is a slight tickling in the muscles.

How much instruction do I need to successfully perform recoveriX therapy?

Patients do not need a separate therapy session for the instruction – they can start with the therapy immediately. The patients only need to learn the general procedure and simple instructions for the therapy session before the first session. The first session is already part of the therapy.

Is recoveriX therapy also appropriate for people with a history of epilepsy?

The recoveriX treatment can also be used for patients with epilepsy, but the final decision is done by your family doctor.

Is a disorder of cognition and/or attention an exclusion criteria?

A significant disorder in language, cognition, and/or attention (such as Wernicke’s aphasia or dementia), which prevents the patient from understanding the tasks and/or performing these tasks, is an exclusion criterion.

Where is the recoveriX treatment available?
The recoveriX treatment is available around the world. Check out the list of recoveriX gyms, hospitals and treatment centers worldwide.
